New Ulm sweeps at St. Cloud triangular

ST. CLOUD — Elijah Rieser earned his 100th career win in a 2-0 effort during a prep wrestling triangular Friday at St. Cloud Tech as the Eagles defeated Monticello 50-10 and St. Cloud Tech 52-11.

Reagan Johnson also went 2-0 in the meet with two pins. Wyatt Pollard, Lane Ruch and Jamisen Frederickson all each went 2-0 with a pin in the meet.

Sleepy Eye 86, Wabasso 71

WABASSO — Sleepy Eye defeated Wabasso 86-71 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Friday.

Landon Wendinger led the Indians with a triple double, earning 37 points, 24 rebounds and 13 blocks. Brayden Heiderscheidt had 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals, while Eric Lozano had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

Brayden Guetter led the Rabbits with 30 points, while Calvin Hanna had 10 points.

Sleepy Eye (3-2, 2-1) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday. Wabasso (2-2, 0-2) hosts BLHS on Monday.

Springfield 70, St. Mary’s 58

SLEEPY EYE — Springfield downed Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 70-58 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Friday.

Brecken Heiling led the Tigers with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Parker Kuehn had 16 points and two steals. Brayden Sturm had 9 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists.

George Schwint scored 20 points with five rebound and two blocks for St. Mary’s, while Kessler Severson had 13 points and five rebounds. Adam Steffensmeier added 11 points and six rebounds for the Knights.

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain raced by Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 96-50 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Friday.

Blake Schueller led the Cougars with 35 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Blake Steffl had 31 points, nine assists and three steals. Carson Schiller added 9 points and four steals.

Nicollet 64, GHEC/T/ML 49

NICOLLET — Nicollet earned its first win of the season with a 64-49 win over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Friday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game.

Henry Oscarson led the Raiders with 20 points, while Henry Kennedy had 14 points and six rebounds. AJ Kramer had 11 points and six rebounds, while Carson Kettner had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Nicollet (1-4, 1-2) travels to play Sleepy Eye on Thursday.

Waseca 80, New Ulm 64

NEW ULM — Waseca downed New Ulm 80-64 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game on Friday.

Levi Hopp and Zach Hubbard each had 15 points for the Eagles, while Brady Denis added 9 points.

New Ulm (1-3, 0-3) travels to Fairmont on Tuesday.

New Ulm 76, Waseca 21

WASECA — New Ulm rolled by Waseca 76-21 in a Big South Conference girls basketball game on Friday.

Maddie Backer led the Eagles with 15 points, while Brooklyn Lewis had 12 points. Leah Brustad had 10 points for New Ulm.

New Ulm (3-3, 2-1) travels to Fairmont on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. game.

St. Mary’s 88, Springfield 42

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s beat Springfield 88-42 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Friday.

Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 37 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists, while Olivia Schieffert had 16 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Natalie Fischer had 11 points and four rebounds, while Brynne Ibberson had 11 points and five steals.

Emma Hauger led the Tigers with 12 points, while Olivia Milbrath had 7 points and three blocks. Kendall Krueger added 6 points and eight rebounds.

Paige Haala paced the Indians with 26 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists, while Kayla Hecht had 16 points and four rebounds. Taylor Berkner had 11 points and four rebounds, and Cadence Okerman had 10 points, five assists and five steals.

Wabasso was led by Elizabeth Morin’s 18 points.

Aubrey Steffl scored a game-high 39 points for Cedar Mountain, adding 15 rebounds and 10 steals for a triple double. Steffl also had nine assists, while Brooklyn Diehn had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Grace Hamre added 10 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Cedar Mountain (5-1, 2-1) travels to Redwood Valley on Monday.

Nicollet 52, RCW 30

RENVILLE — Nicollet raced by Renville County West 52-30 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Friday.

Leah Bode paced the Raiders with 17 points, while Savannah Klockziem had 16 points. Cheyenne Klockziem added 9 points for Nicollet.

Lester Prairie 73, GFW 45

Trinity Stearns led the Thunderbirds with 23 points, while Nicole Duehn had 9 points.
