ST. PAUL — Martin Luther College football received a lot of solid individual performances from its team in their 46-14 victory over the Westminster Blue Jays, and three in particular were especially recognized. Andrew Esmay (Defense), Thomas Koelpin (Offense), and Micah Koschnitzke (Special Teams) were named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week (October 21-October 27).
Esmay earned the honor for the second time this season after the junior recorded three tackles, two forced fumbles and two sacks, including a 51-yard fumble recovery for touchdown in the second half. Esmay currently leads all of Division III in total sacks (12.5) and forced fumbles (6).
Koelpin finished his day at wide receiver with six receptions, 164 yards and two touchdown grabs. The junior had over 150 receiving yards for the second consecutive week.
Koschnitzke made two field goals, including a 29- and 40-yarder and was 4 for 4 on extra point attempts. The kicker moved up to second in MLC career field goals (12) after Saturday’s game and also had an interception on defense in the second half.
The Knights play an important conference game on the road at Northwestern on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m.
