Area roundup: Greyhounds race past Mustangs

PREP FOOTBALL

Cathedral 60, BLHS 20

HECTOR — New Ulm Cathedral ran past Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 60-20 on Friday night in a Nine-Man South District, West Subdistrict football game.

Josh Bentler had 12 carries for 147 yards, four touchdowns and two 2-point conversions to lead the Greyhounds, while Rylan Koopmann had two carries for 51 yards and a score. Jake Finstad completed 7 of 9 passes for 101 yards, a touchdown and two 2-point conversion passes and had four carries for 35 yards and a touchdown also for Cathedral, while Alex Portner had 12 carries for 66 yards and Eli Anderson had eight carries for 30 yards and a touchdown. Colin Anderson had four catches for 48 yards and both 2-point conversion receptions, while Josh Forstner had a 38-yard TD catch. For the Cathedral defense, Joe Gillis was in one eight tackles and caused a fumble, while Camden Berg had seven tackles.

Cathedral (5-2) hosts Hills-Beaver Creek at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the final game of the regular season.

SEU 20, Windom Area 12

WINDOM — Sleepy Eye United defeated Windom Area 20-12 in a South District, West-South Subdistrict football game on Friday.

Cody Schultz led United with 12 carries for 46 yards and two touchdowns, while Wyatt Pollard connected with Talan Helget for one passing touchdown. Gavin Fischer had 57 yards on 16 carries.

Defensively for SEU, Tucker Haala had six total tackles, while Caleb Suess had a sack and Tyler Mathiowetz had an interception.

SEU (5-2) hosts Adrian-Ellsworth on Wednesday.

Jordan 35, New Ulm 7

JORDAN — Jordan cruised by New Ulm 35-7 in a nondistrict football game on Friday.

Ryan Rathmann scored the lone touchdown for the Eagles on a 7-yard pass from Noah Mertz.

New Ulm (4-3) hosts Marshall on Wednesday.

Late Thursday

Cedar Mountain 46, Nicollet 30

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain downed Nicollet 46-30 in a Nine-man South District, West Subdistrict football game on Thursday.

For the Cougars, Blake Steffl had 10 catches for 127 yards and two touchdown receptions while carrying the ball 10 times for 43 yards and a score. Steffl also had an 80-yard punt return for a touchdown. Quarterback Carson Schiller completed 20 of 31 passes for four touchdowns and an interception, while Jackson Guetter had 14 rushes for 46 yards and four catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. Guetter also had an interception return of 17 yards on defense. Easton Csordacsics added five catches for 46 yards. For the Cedar Mountain defense, Steffl led with 14 tackles, an interception and a half sack, while Csordacsics had eight tackles, Guetter had seven tackles, two interceptions and 1 1/2 sacks, Stan Heiling had six tackles and a sack and Riley Haala had five tackles and a sack.

For Nicollet, Henry Oscarson completed 20 of 43 passes for 169 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions while rushing 19 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Slater rushed 14 times for 164 yards and a touchdown and added four receptions for 27 yards. Colton Rengstorf had 10 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Defensively for the Raiders, Slater and Oscarson each had 11 tackles, while Talan Osborne had 10 tackles and an interception.

Cedar Mountain (4-3, 4-3) travels to Red Rock Central on Wednesday, while Nicollet (3-4, 3-3) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Wednesday.

Adrian-Ellsworth 53, Wabasso 18

ADRIAN — Adrian-Ellsworth defeated Wabasso 53-18 in a South District, West-South Subdistrict football game on Thursday.

Calvin Hanna had 44 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Wabasso while adding four receptions for 35 yards. Sam Zeug had 27 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Drew Kemp had 141 yards passing and four interceptions. Nolan Leopold had three receptions for 46 yards.

Defensively for Wabasso, Mason Kampsen had 15 total tackles, while Leopold and Kaysen Harms had an interception each.

Wabasso (2-5, 1-5) hosts Murray County Central on Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Eagles finish season at section individuals

ST. PETER — The New Ulm girls tennis team wrapped up their season at the Section 2AA Girls Tennis Individual Tournament on Thursday at Gustavus Adolphus College.

New Ulm’s Karlee Prahl defeated New Prague’s Lily Bible 6-0, 6-1 in her first match of the day. Prahl then fell to Prior Lake’s Aada Maunu 6-3, 7-6 (7). Also in single action for New Ulm, Joci Pettersen fell to Marshall’s Taylor Depover 6-0, 6-0.

One of New Ulm’s doubles teams at the tournament, Lillian Kral and Aubrey Demarais, fell to New Prague’s Kara Thorsfeldt and Natalie Kraft 6-4, 6-2. New Ulm’s other doubles team of Carmen Schotzko and Natalie Fischer fell to Prior Lake’s Haven Fisher and Sarah Langridge 6-1, 6-0.
