NEW ULM — While the Martin Luther College women’s soccer team was able to hold Dakota Wesalyn scoreless for nearly 20 minutes, the goals soon came pouring in as the Knights fell 4-0 to the Tigers in a nonconference women’s soccer game Wednesday at the MLC soccer complex.

The Knights struggled to gain and maintain possession of the ball and had only two shots on goal compared to Dakota Wesleyan’s 30. MLC keeper Maria Vik had 26 saves.

MLC did manage to keep the Tigers off of the net early on, and while it still struggled to get possession of the ball, it still was able to prevent too many shots on goal for Dakota Wesleyan, with defensive players stepping up early. That trend ended in the 29th minute, when Annika Enevoldsen took a shot from outside the goalie box that sailed to the right of Vik for a goal. Six minutes later, Sara Ewert collected another goal for the Tigers with a shot from the right of the goal that again snuck into the left corner, making it a 2-0 game. Ewert added a third goal that went in the top left corner in the 42nd minute.

MLC allowed one more goal in the 50th minute to Enevoldsen before the defense stiffened once more, shutting out Dakota Wesleyan for the rest of the game.

MLC (0-1-1) travels to Maranatha Baptist University on Saturday.

Starting at $4.50/week.
