New Ulm Jr. Gold battles back to take down Mankato American

NEW ULM — The New Ulm Junior Legion Gold put together a five-run fourth inning to come back and take down the Mankato American Junior Legion in a junior legion baseball game Friday night at Mueller Park.
It was New Ulm’s final regular season game of the season ahead of this coming Tuesday’s DI Junior Legion Sub-State G playoffs in Marshall. New Ulm was awarded the top seed in the tourney and will play either No. 9 Tri-City United or No. 8 Jordan.
After American took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Jr. Gold got a run back in the second before taking five more in the fourth and holding on for the win.
New Ulm got five pitchers work in the win, with Collin Forstner getting the start and going two innings. He allowed one hit and two walks for three runs while striking out one. Coehn Domeier pitched two innings in relief and allowed two hits with two strikeouts, while Tanner Backer pitched the fifth inning and allowed one walk while fanning one. Dirk Haynes pitched the sixth and allowed three hits while striking out one, while Zach Hubbard closed things down in the seventh with two strikeouts.
Kyle Albrecht led New Ulm at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs, while Parker Neubauer was 1 for 1 with an RBI and two walks.
Grant Quam took the loss for American in two innings of relief, allowing three hits and two walks for three earned runs while striking out four. Carson Mitzel was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
