NEW ULM — New Ulm left-hander Ethan Stade threw seven innings of three-hit ball and the Brewers’ Andrew Peters pounded out four hits and drove in three runs as the New Ulm Brewers topped Courtland 7-1 Thursday at Johnson Park in a Tomahawk East League game.
Stade struck out nine in earning the win for the Brewers who improved to 12-1 in the TEL.
Jaden Drill took the loss for the Cubs, now 9-4 in the TEL. He went 4 1/3 innings and was charged with four runs.
J.T. Hoffmann, Cole Ranweiler and Ayden Jensen each had two hits for the Brewers, with Jensen driving in two runs.
“I thought that I performed pretty well tonight,” Stade said. “My fastball was there and my changeup was also working for me tonight — it usually doesn’t, but tonight if felt pretty good.”

The only run scored by the Cubs came in the top of the fifth inning on a double steal.
“It was close the whole game, but we kind of broke it out in the fifth inning.” Stade said.
It was also a game where the letfhanded Stade picked two runners off first.
“That [pickoff move] is something that I work on a Minnesota State.” he said. “Coaches help me with that sort of thing since I am lefthanded that move is pretty key.”
The Brewers and Courtland entered the bottom of the fifth tied at 1-1 before New Ulm broke it open with their only hit of the inning.

Hoffmann, Cole Ranweiler and Trevor Nissen all walked before Hoffmann scored on a fielder’s choice.
That brought Peters — who had singled twice in his two previous at-bats — to the plate.
Peters delivered his third hit — a two-run double that gave New Ulm a 4-1 lead.
Twenty four hours earlier in a 9-8 loss to Essig and with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Peters failed to get that key hit.
Thursday night, he got that key hit.
“I had more of a level head at the plate,” Peters said. “I just went up there and did what I could at the plate. We did not play good baseball [Wednesday], but tonight we showed that we can play better baseball.”
The Brewers added a run in the sixth on a Hoffmann double and a Ranweiler single before they tacked on two more runs in the seventh on doubles from Nissen, Jensen and Peters.
Both the Brewers and Courtland are off until Saturday’s All-Star game in Essig. The game will start at 4 p.m.
