NEW ULM — Zach Hubbard allowed one run and three hits through five innings and the New Ulm Junior Legion Gold cruised to a 10-3 win over Springfield Monday night at Mueller Park.
Gold jumped to a 10-1 lead after five innings, making a statement early on. Hubbard struck out five and retired the seven straight batters to end his day.
Madden Lendt took the loss for Springfield. He was charged with six runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Tanner Backer had two hits for New Ulm, now 15-5-1. Kyle Albrecht drove in three runs with Parker Neubauer driving in two runs.

“This was a good win for us,” New Ulm coach Mike Anderson said. “This was an underrated win. I like to scout teams looking at Game Changer, and what I saw of them is that they had not lost and they are killing everybody. And five or six of their starters from their state championship team were on this team. Our boys stayed steady.”
Springfield took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an Aiden Moriarty groundout.
But Gold plated two runs in the bottom of the first on RBI singles from Hunter, Larson and Backer.
New Ulm made it 3-1 in the second on an error before adding three more in the third.
A Backer leadoff double and walk to Ryan Rathmann preceded a Carson Boe single that loaded the bases.
Two passed balls, a walk and a Kyle Albrecht sacrifice fly made it 6-1.
Junior Legion Gold added four more runs in the fourth on just one hit using three walks and two hit batters.
It was a game where, despite scoring 10 runs, New Ulm still left 13 runners on base.
“We are 22 games into our season and our quality at-bats are good — we are taking good at-bats,” Anderson said. “And Zach did a good job on the mound. He settled in — he did not have a feel for the ball in the first inning but he settled in. He threw strikes and we made plays behind him. Of our five losses this season, two are to senior legion teams.”
New Ulm is at Lake Crystal on Wednesday before playing this coming weekend in a tournament in Alexandria.
