MANKATO — New Ulm Junior Legion defeated Mankato East 12-6 in eight innings on Tuesday night in a junior legion baseball game.

Ryan Rathmann led New Ulm at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Kyle Albrecht was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Zach Hubbard got the win on the mound after a scoreless eighth inning. Hunter Larson got the start for New Ulm and pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.

New Ulm (3-0) participates in the Minnetonka Tournament beginning this Thursday in Harrisburg, South Dakota.

Sleepy Eye 11,

Dassel-Cokato 2

DASSEL — Sleepy Eye Junior Legion downed Dassel-Cokato 11-2 on Tuesday in a junior legion baseball game.

Gavin Strong led the way at the plate for Sleepy Eye, going 2 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored, while Cole Eckstein was 2 for 4 with two run scored and three stolen bases. Carson Uecker also was 2 for 5 with a triple and three RBIs.

Tyler Mathiowetz got the win in five innings, allowing four hits for one earned run while striking out five. Kayden Klein pitched two scoreless innings in relief also and was 2 for 5 at the plate.

VFW BASEBALL

Springfield Jr. 15,

Sleepy Eye 5

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Junior Legion topped Sleepy Eye VFW 15-5 on Tuesday in a junior legion baseball game.

E. Heglund got the win on the mound in five innings, allowing one hit and eight walks for five earned runs while striking out six. E. Streich was 2 for 3 with a double and five RBIs for Springfield, while P. Kuehn was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs and A. Trevino added a triple and an RBI. Dylan Krebs had Sleepy Eye’s lone hit in the game and was 1 for 2, while S Martinez drew three walks. Brecken Hulke pitched 3 1/3 innings in the loss and struck out two while allowing three walks, while Ethan Schwartz pitched an inning and struck out two.

Sleepy Eye hosts Hutchinson at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
