Rabbits stay hopping in 3A elimination bracket

MARSHALL — Wabasso stayed alive in the Section 3A Softball Tournament elimination bracket on Saturday with a pair of wins, defeating No. 5-seeded Yellow Medicine East 4-0 and Renville County West 7-2.

In the win over YME, Avery Carlson got the win in a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three. Alivia Olson had a bunt single for the Rabbits’ lone hit of the game.

In the win over RCW, Avery Carlson pitched a complete game again for her second consecutive game without allowing an earned run. She recorded five strikeouts and held RCW to four hits and one walk. Sara Carlson reached base safely three times, recording a single and a pair of walks. She also stole three bases, scored twice and added two RBIs. Alivia Olson, Annabelle Struntz and Calleigh Burns each doubled for Wabasso.

Wabasso (17-7) takes on Lac qi Parle Valley at Marshall Softball Complex at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the chance to return to the section finals on Thursday for the second year in a row.
