GFW boys take 2nd, Sibley East girls 1st at 2A North Subsection meet

NORWOOD YOUNG AMERICA — The Section 2A, North Subsection Track and Field Tournament was held at Central Public Schools on Thursday, with the top eight in each event and the top four relay teams advancing to the section finals.

Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet took first in the boys meet with a 105, followed by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (103), Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral (97), Sibley East (79), Mankato Loyola/Cleveland (55), Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (51), River Valley (43), Le Sueur-Henderson (37), Mayer Lutheran (35), Lester Prairie (34), Norwood-Young America (34) and St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran (29).

Sibley East won the girls side of the meet with a 100, followed by River Valley (99), LCWM/N (87.5), ML/C (61), LSH (60), SC/IL (59), WEM (49), MVL/NUC (48), NYA (39.5), GFW (36), Mayer Lutheran (31) and Lester Prairie (31).

The GFW boys were led by Justin Messner, who took first in the 200 (22.90) and 400 (50.85). Garrett Stegeman placed sixth in the 200 (23.66) also for GFW, while Garrett Schmidt took first in the 300-meter hurdles (41.79) and second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.37 ) and second in long jump (19-2.5). Easton Taylor took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.13), fifth in the long jump (19-0.75) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (46.04). The GFW boys 4×100 relay team of Regie Mattes, Stegeman, Brennir Peterson and Schmidt took second (45.25), while the 4×400 relay team of Stegeman, Peterson, Mattes and Messner took third (3:34.83). Alex Johnson placed first in the discus (148-07) and fourth in shot put (44-01.50), while Dominic Krumwiece (124-4) took sixth Ashton Buboltz (122-8) took seventh in discus. Peterson placed third in high jump (5-6) and seventh in triple jump (38-0.25)

For the MVL/NUC boys, Josh Bentler placed first in the 100 (11.25), while Jaden Helget placed sixth in the 100 (11.53). Jared Frey took eighth in the 200 (24.32) and Elliot Hoffman placed fourth in the 800 (2:05.42). Jeremy Feistner took sixth in the 3,200 (10:49.09).

Will Kaesermann placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (43.18), third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.46) and fifth in triple jump (38-10.75), while the 4×200 relay team of Frey, Justin Thompson, Ben Halvorson and Bentler took first (1:32.70), as did the 4×400 relay team of Thompson, Frey, Halvorson and Hoffman (3:31.88). Ben Rossow took fifth in discus (127-4) and seventh in shot put (41-0.5), and Ethan Schauland took fourth in pole vault (10-6) and seventh in high jump (5-4). Jaden Helget took third in pole vault (11-0), while Halvorson took first in triple jump (40-9).

For the LCWM/N boys, Connor Martens took third in the 100 (11.32) and fourth in triple jump (39-5.5), while Longan Sandmeyer placed first in long jump (19-7.5) and fourth in the 100 (11.47). Lucas Pietan placed eighth in the 400 (55.16), and Charlie Gengler took second in the 800 (2:03.56). Aidan Moeller placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (44.50) and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (17.56), while Ryan Masters placed eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.13). The 4×100 relay team of Sandmeyer, Martens, Logan Quade and Wesley Hoffman took first (45.01), while the 4×400 relay team of Martens, Luke Engel, Henry Oscarson and Gengler placed second (3:34.83). The 4×800 relay team of Pietan, Engel, Oscarson and Gengler placed third (8:50.48). Drew Tergeon placed second in discus (147-9) and third in shot put (44-1.75), while Braxton Dudgeon placed second in high jump (5-9) and sixth in triple jump (38-7.5) and Levi Freyberg placed first in pole vault (12-0).

For the Sibley East boys, Tyson Durham placed fourth in the 200 (23.50) and fifth in the 100 (11.49), while Joseph Ballalatak took first in the 800 (2:01.19). Gavin Pomplun placed third in the 1,600 (4:47.44) and fifth in the 800 (2:10.09), and Julio Alejandro took second in the 3,200 (10.22.20). Aidan McCue finished second in triple jump (40-7), fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.15) and sixth in long jump (18-11.25). The 4×200 relay team of Paul Taffe, Ballalatak, Durham and McCue took second (1:36.20), while Parker Burdorf placed second in shot put (45.3) and third in discus (139-5). Taffe finished sixth in the pole vault (9-6).

For the River Valley boys, Noah Christensen placed sixth in the 400 (53.95), while Raul Rodriguez took third in the 800 (2:04.46). Matthew Groebner won the 1,600 (4:42.83), and the 4×400 relay team of Nolan Weicherding, Christensen, Rodriguez and Groebner took fourth (3:35.02) and the 4×800 relay team of Rodriguez, Dylan Dweitt, Christensen and Groebner placed first (8.30.50). Evan Thompson finished fifth in shot put (43-11.75).

For the Sibley East girls team that took first, Rachelle Wear took fourth in the 100 (12.91) and fifth in the 200 (27.41), while Karcyn Dose took second in the 800 (2:22.88) and Ruby Ballalatak took third in the 800 (2:25.91). Bridget Biron took eighth in the 800 (2:34.7), while Ella Doehling took fourth in the 1,600 (6:02.83) Claire Bauer took eighth in the 1,600 (6:15.74), Amelia Odenthal took fifth in the 3,200 (13:15.1), Maya Kumar took sixth in the 100 hurdles (17.91), Emme Eccles took fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.66) and the 4×800 relay team of Ruby Ballalatak, Dose, Biron and took second (10:06.54). The 4×100 relay team of Anahi Farias, Eccles, Adilynn Odenthal and Wear took third (52.0). In the discus, Brianna Kettner took fourth (93-07), while Biron took sixth in the high jump (4-06), Wear took second in the long jump (16-02.5), Eccles took third in the long jump (16-01.5) and Mahrlie Lundgren took second in the triple jump (31-06.75).

For the River Valley girls, Hailey Hollar took first in the 100 (12.34) and second in the 200 (25.78), while Brynne Ibberson took second in the 400 (1:00.24), Marissa Pabst took fourth in the 800 (2:25.91), Aubrey Steffl took fifth in the 800 (2:28.86), Olivia Milbrath took second in the 1,600 (5:52.29) and Emma Hagen took sixth in the 3,200 (13:25.38). Also for the River Valley girls, Mille Lax took third in the 100 hurdles (16.87), Leah Kucera took seventh in the 100 hurdles (18.06) and Lax took third in the 300 hurdles (49.37). The 4×400 relay team of Hollar, Marley Hewitt, Pabst and Ibberson took first (4:10.66), while the 4×800 relay team of Katie Thram, Emmie McCone, Pabst and Ibberson took second (10:06.54). The 4×100 relay team of Yanellie Fernandez, Leah Kucera, Erika Wells and Hewitt took fourth (52.22), while the 4×200 relay team of Yessenia Fernandez, Lax, Lucera and Hewitt took third (1:52.87). Yuridia Fernandez took eighth in the shot put (28-06.25), while Lydia Dauer took eighth in the pole vault (7-0), Hollar took eighth in the long jump (15-07.5) and Kucera took fourth in the triple jump (30-06.25).

For the LCWM/N girls, Chloe Sargent took sixth in the 400 (1:05.34), while Ellie Bergemann took eighth in the 400 (1:06.16), Jaci Jordan took sixth in the 800 (2:32.05), Cora Johannes took fifth in the 1,600 (6:03.17), Emma Sodeman took sixth in the 1,600 (6:04.03) and Evie Jones took second in the 3,200 (12:25.53). Also for the LCWM/N girls, Savannah Klockziem took fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.62) and second in the 300 hurdles (49.1), while Lauren Smit took eighth in the 100 hurdles (18.61) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (52.09). The LCWM/N girls 4×400 relay team of Klockziem, Katelin Flack, Smit and Maggie Graupman took second (4:16.5), while the 4×800 relay team of Jordan, Sargent, Niko Eskildsen and Jones took fourth (10:14.09), Willow Casey took sixth in the shot put (28-11), Flack took first in the discus (112-0), Alyssa Greenough took third in the high jump (5-0), Madison Huper took third in the pole vault (8-0), Kyleigh Schultz took sixth in the pole vault (7-06) and Graupman took first in the triple jump (33-0).

For the MVL/NUC girls, Avery Hopp took eighth in the 200 (28.07), while Avery Freier took second in the 100 hurdles (16.79), Claudia Weisensel took fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.88) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (50.13) and Emily Brown took sixth in the 300 hurdles (50.77). The MVL/NUC girls 4×00 relay team of Freier, Weisensel, Hopp and Tiphany Dos Santos took second (1:52.81), while Mackenzie Frank took second in the shot put (30-10.5), Jennarae Bates took sixth in the discus (92-02) and Ellie Kaesermann took sixth in the triple jump (30-01.5).

For the GFW girls, Kinley Bruns took third in the 100 (12.75) and third in the 400 (1:00.33), while Madyson Steele took third in the 3,200 (12:56.87), Annie Wersal took eighth in the discus (86-09), Trinity Stearns took fifth in the high jump (4-08) and Kelby Bruns took seventh in the triple jump (29-08.75). The 4×200 relay team of Taylor Bauer, Maren Kemkes, Kelby Bruns and Kinley Bruns took fourth (1:53.08).

The Section 2A Track and Field Tournament will take place at Mankato West High School on Saturday, June 1.
