MLC men’s 4×400 relay record broken Saturday

ST. PETER — The Martin Luther College outdoor track and field team was at a meet hosted by Gustavus on Saturday and multiple MLC student-athletes set personal records in their events. Lucas Holtz, Martin Raasch, Jeremiah Stanton and Nathan Pausma also broke the MLC school record in the 4×400 relay race (3:23.87) that was previously set in 1998 by Ben Lawrenz, Jayson Diersen, Pete Korthals and Carlos Leyrer (3:27.80).

MLC MEN

Gustav Wenz earned first place in the javelin throw (44.24 meters) while Jack Pittenger finished right behind him in second (43.48 meters).

Samuel Plocher jumped 1.98 meters, which tied Jaden Johnson (Minnesota Duluth) for the highest jump out of all competitors. The freshman also ended his day off with a third place spot in the 110-meter hurdles (15.57 seconds).

In short distance, Lucas Holtz claimed eighth (out of 53 runners) in the 200-meter dash after a personal record of 22.89 seconds. In middle distance, Nathan Pausma earned second place in the 800-meter run with a mark of 1:56.60, while Micah Schibbelhut finished in fifth with his personal record time of 1:59.77.

Additionally, the 4×100 relay team clocked in at 43.96 seconds (Holtz, Raasch, Stanton, and Stephen Wietzke) and came up just shy again of first place and the school record of 43.67 seconds.

In long distance, Camden Sulzle and Elijah Hutchinson gained personal records in their respective events. Sulzle ran the 5000 meter in 16:23.87, while Hutchinson finished the 3000 meter steeplechase in 11:14.71.

Stanton rounded out the field events by placing in third in the triple jump (12.61 meters).

MLC WOMEN

Elena Brauer had the highest finish for the MLC women by taking second in the javelin throw (30.64 meters/ personal record.) Freshman Rachel Groth had a sixth-place finish in the javelin with a top throw of 28.80 meters.

The Knights had more personal records and top 10 results in throwing events, as Madelinn Romsdahl (6th/ 36.83 meters), Emma Nelson (8th/36.05 meters), and Ella Schlei (9th/34.50 meters) all performed well. Nolte also took fifth in the shot put (11.50 meters), while Nelson claimed ninth (10.75 meters).

In the running events, Hope Sulzle gained a personal record of 13:08.03 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, while Naomi Foley clocked in a season-best time of 2:29.90 in the 800-meter after taking 15th out of 37 participants.

MLC track and field will now focus on the UMAC Championships on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 to close out their season.
