MVL/NUC boys track and field team ties for 1st in St. James

ST. JAMES — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran/New Ulm Cathedral boys track and field team tied for first with Redwood Valley at the St. James track and field invitation Tuesday, scoring 132 as a team.

The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop boys placed third with 120.5, followed by St. James Area (87.5), Blue Earth Area (41.5) and Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Turman/Madelia.

Redwood Valley won the girl’s side of the meet as well (140), followed by SJA (107.66), GFW (88), MVL/NUC (83.33), BEA (81) and GHEC/ML/T/M (44).

MVL/NUC was led by Will Kaesermann, who placed first in the boys 110-meter hurdles (16.01), third in in the 300-meter hurdles (47.55) and fifth in the boys triple jump (36-4). Josh Bentler placed first in the boys 100 (11.76). Elliot Hoffman placed second in the boys 800 (2:11.42) and third in the boys 1,600 (4:52.33) while Ben Halvorson placed second in the long jump (18-0), second in the triple jump (38-1) and third in the boys 200 (25.05).

Also for the MVL/NUC boys, Kendrick Henry placed fourth in the boys 800 (2:21.55), while Jeremy Feistner placed fourth in the boys 3,200 (11:56.04). Justin Thompson tied for fifth in the boys 100 (12.12), while Tyler Fischer placed fifth in the boys 400 (1:02.58). Benjamin Rossow placed second in the boys discus (108-8) and fifth in the boys shot put (37-3), while Ethan Schauland tied for second in the boys high jump (5-6) and Jaden Helget won the boys pole vault (10-6). Thompson, Bentler, Jared Frey and Helget placed second in the boys 4×100 relay (46.74), while Bentler, Frey, Kaesermann and Halvorson placed first in the boys 4×200 relay (1:38.34) and Thompson, Frey, Hoffman and Henry placed second in the boys 4×400 (3:52.55).

For the GFW boys, Easton Taylor won the long jump (19-3.5), placed second in the boys 300-meter hurdles (47.16), fourth in the triple jump (36-9) and fifth in the boys 110-meter hurdles (17.86). Garett Stegeman placed second in the boys 200 (24.59) and third in the boys 400 (58.12), while Garrett Schmidt placed third in the boys 110-meter hurdles (16.50), fourth in the boys 300-meter hurdles (48.12) and fourth in the long jump (17-10).

Also for the GFW boys, Alex Johnson placed first in the boys discus (132-9) and second in the boys shot put (40-9) and Ashton Buboltz placed fourth in the boys shot put (38-1.5) and fifth in the boys discus (95-4.5). Dominic Krumwiede placed third in boys discus (105-10.5), while Brennir Peterson placed first in the boys high jump (5-8). Justin Messner placed first in the boys 400 (54.38) and third in the boys 100 (11.81), while Matthew Lee placed fifth in the boys 800 (2:32.28).

For the GHEC/ML/T/M boys, Jackson Madsen placed fourth in the boys 200 (25.11) and tied for first in the boys 100 (12.12). Josiah DeMaris placed fourth in the 1,600 (5:05.23), while the 4×800 relay team of Caleb DeCann, Carson Meraz, DeMaris and Ryan Koberoski placed second (9:23.34). Cohl Becker placed third in shot put (38-11.5), while Jonathan Olson placed fourth in Discus (102-7).

For the MVL/NUC girls, Averyelle Hopp took fifth in the girls 100 (14.09), while Grace Peters took fifth in the girls 400 (1:13.06) and Natalie Matzke took fifth in the girls 800 (3:03.3). The MVL/NUC girls controlled the 100 hurdles as Emily Brown took first (17.6), Avery Freier took second (18.78) and Claudia Weisensel (19.2). Brown and Weisensel also finished first and second, respectively, in the girls 300 hurdles (55.42; 55.48).

The MVL/NUC girls also got a first-place finish in the shot put from Mackenzie Frank (28-06), while Hopp took third in the long jump (12-10.5) and Brown took third in the triple jump (28-01).

The GFW girls saw Kinley Bruns take first in the girls 100 (13.55) and third in the girls 200 (29.46), while Abigail Willegal took third in the girls 800 (2:56.92), Kelly Willegal took second in the girls 1,600 (6:42.71) and Madyson Steele took third in the girls 3,200 (13:11.87). GFW also had Maren Kemkes finish fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (20.25), Annie Wersal take second in the girls shot put (28-02) and second in the girls discus (87-0), Taylor Bauer take second in the girls long jump (13-01) and Kelby Bruns take fourth in the girls long jump (12-10.25). The GFW girls 4×200 relay team, consisting of Taylor Bauer, Maren Kemkes, Kelby Bruns and Kinley Bruns, took first with a 1:57.77.

The M/T/GHEC/ML girls, Londyn Bowers took fifth in the girls 200 (30.18), while Kayla Mattson took third in the girls 400 (1:10.51), Olivia Mattson took fourth in the girls 800 (3:02.7) and tied for third in the high jump (4-02) and Bryleigh Arkell took fourth in the girls 1,600 (6:53.92). The M/T/GHEC/ML girls 4×200 relay team, consisting of Kendall Pietsch, Carla Merno, Kayla Mattson and Bowers, also took second with a time of 2:00.86. The M/T/GHEC/ML girls also had Lynsie Salic finish third in the girls shot put (27-07), while Anna Mwangi took fourth in the girls discus (73-04) and Layla Johnson took fifth in the girls triple jump (27-04).
