Fans celebrate third-place team with special celebration

HECTOR — Fans welcomed the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart girls basketball team in style Sunday after the team’s third-place trophy win at the Class A State Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

The Mustangs ended their season with a 66-49 win over Underwood in the third-place game at state on Saturday at Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, giving them a 29-4 overall record.

Fans welcomed the team back on Sunday in a special welcome-home party at the BLHS High School gymnasium.

The team also earned Gold Academic All-State honors for having a team GPA of over 3.75. Rachel Kottke and Kristi Kottke were named to the Class A All-State Tournament Team also following Saturday’s win.
