BLUE EARTH — New Ulm Area dominated Blue Earth Area on Friday night in a Big South Conference wrestling dual, winning 56-6.
New Ulm Area got pins from Kane Johnson (121), Tegan Kral (127), Winsten Nienhaus (145), Noah Engel (152), Lane Ruch (160) and Jamisen Frederickson (189) in the win, while Elijah Rieser (133) earned a 19-3 tech fall.

MVL 86, St. Mary’s 71
SLEEPY EYE — Behind Ben Pearson’s 45-point effort, Minnesota Valley Lutheran took down Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 86-71 on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.
Pearson added 11 rebounds and four assists to go with his 45 points. Pearson scored a school-record 46 points last March during a Section 2AA playoff game with Maple River.
Will Kaesermann had 12 points and 11 rebounds also for MVL, while Kyler Flunker had 10 points and five rebounds and Aaron Black had 8 points and 11 rebounds.
Will Walter had a big night of his own for the Knights with 40 points and seven rebounds, while Mark Anderson had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
MVL (8-1, 5-0) hosts Wabasso in a conference game on Tuesday night, while St. Mary’s (7-3, 3-3) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday night in a conference game.

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield had four players in double figures on Friday night as the Tigers ran away for a 91-55 win over New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.
The Tigers were led by Brayden Sturm’s 21 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds and four steals, while Noah Vogel had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Simonson had 15 points, and Ben Potter added 11 points.
Cathedral was led by Jevan Wilfahrt’s 21 points and eight rebounds, while Colin Anderson added 7 points.
Springfield (4-4, 3-1) is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop for a conference game on Tuesday night, while Cathedral (6-4, 2-4) hosts Cedar Mountain for conference action on Tuesday night.
Waseca 75, New Ulm 69
WASECA — Waseca took down New Ulm 75-69 on Friday night in a Big South Conference boys basketball game.
New Ulm was led by Colton Benson’s 24 points, while James Osborne scored 13 and Nate Firle added 12.
New Ulm (7-5, 3-2) hosts Fairmont for conference action on Monday night.

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye rolled to an 81-36 win over Cedar Mountain on Friday night in a Tomahawk Conference girls basketball game.
Sleepy Eye was led by Kadence Hesse, who had 24 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and seven assists, while Brea Mertz had 25 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Cedar Mountain was led by Aubrey Steffl, who had 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Brooklyn Diehn had 9 points and four rebounds, Kendra Erickson had 6 points and five rebounds and Brynn Hoffbeck had 6 points and three rebounds.
Sleepy Eye (11-1, 6-0) is at Hayfield for a 6 p.m. game Saturday, while Cedar Mountain (5-8, 2-5) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday night.

ARLINGTON — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s topped Sibley East 72-63 on Friday night in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Morgan Mathiowetz led the way for the Knights with 29 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Brynne Ibberson had 14 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Olivia Schieffert added 7 points and five assists for St. Mary’s, while Amelia Schwartz had 7 points, eight rebounds and two steals, Kylie Pelzel had 7 points and Natalie Fischer had 6 points.
Lauren Bauer led Sibley East with 15 points, while Morgan Bednarek had 13 points, Kale Anderson had 12 points and Elizabeth Sell had 8 points.

TRUMAN — Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther cruised to a 79-31 win over Nicollet on Friday night in Valley Conference girls basketball action.
The Jaguars had four players in double figures in the win, led by Keira Benck’s 19 points. McKenna Benck and Bethany Petrowiak added 15 points each, while Londyn Bowers had 11.
Nicollet was led by Leah Bode’s 11 points, while Jazmyn Goettlicher had 8 points and Chloe Kachelmeier chipped in 5.
Nicollet (3-7) is at Alden-Conger for a 7 p.m. game Monday.

New Ulm 5, Waseca 1
NEW ULM — New Ulm defeated Waseca 5-1 on Friday night in a Big South Conference girls hockey game.
Michelle Smith had a hat trick in the win, while Afton Hulke and Malorie Anderson each had a goal. Hulke, Anderson, Maddie Olson and Jersey Haugen each had an assist.
Ava Brennan stopped 14 shots in net for the Eagles, who host Marshall at 5 p.m. Saturday at the New Ulm Civic Center on Hockey Day New Ulm.

Springfield goes 0-3 in home quad
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield was unable to pick up a win in their home quadrangular on Thursday night, falling to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 49-24, Minneapolis North 46-24 and Windom/Mountain Lake 54-24.
Nick Groebner picked up three wins in the quadrangular for Springfield at 127, with Stan Heiling (152), Paytin Johnson (160) and Easton Johnson (189) going 2-1.
Springfield will wrestle in the Hopkins Paul Bengtson Tournament in Minnetonka on Saturday.
