NEW ULM — Martin Luther College fell 3-1 to Northwestern Wednesday in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer game at the MLC soccer complex.

The game broke the Knights’ four-game scoreless streak. MLC has scored multiple goals in only three contests this season. Perhaps not coincidentally, MLC’s only wins have been in those games as the Knights sit at 3-14-1 on the season with one game remaining in the regular season.

MLC’s goal was scored by Isaias Santos, assisted by Josiah Wordell. MLC had 6 shots on goal to Northwestern’s 13. Knights goalkeeper Zach Pausma had nine saves.

Northwestern started the scoring in the 16th minute with a goal from Aaron Hill in front of the net, assisted on a crosser by Garrett Miers. Hill followed that up in the 21st minute with an unassisted goal, then Northwestern wrapped up the first half with a goal after a cleared corner kick that Tim DeLoye pushed back into the box to be capitalized on by Nathan Martinez in the 42nd minute.

The second half was mostly scoreless, with MLC getting some pressure offensively. The pressure eventually broke through with Santos’ goal in the 85th minute, but the Knights were unable to put another goal in the net.

MLC hosts North Central College on Saturday.
