MLC prevails to 3-2 win over Rams

MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther College volleyball team won their second consecutive UMAC match with a 3-2 (18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 17-15) victory over the North Central Rams on Friday.

As a team, MLC had a season-high 68 kills to propel themselves throughout the match. The Knights overcame an early deficit in which they trailed 1-0 after committing 11 errors in the opening set, to take the next pair of sets to go up 2-1 in the match.

The Rams nodded back to even it up at 2-2, forcing a fifth set, where the Knights were able to finish off North Central for the 3-2 win. MLC found themselves down 11-6 in the final set, but scored five unanswered points to tie it at 11-11. From there, the two teams traded the lead back and forth, with Lauren Paulsen and Abigail Winkel each recording a kill for MLC’s final points.

Grace Kieselhorst led MLC in kills (19) and assists (27), while Ella Walz once again found her rhythm recording 25 assists.

Naomi Bridgemen held down the libero position with a team-high 22 digs, while Paulsen finished with 18 digs and 15 kills.

MLC now improves to (7-13, 5-3) on the season and will return to the court in an away match at Crown on Tuesday.
