Two to be inducted into New Ulm Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame

NEW ULM — Two bowlers will be inducted into the New Ulm Bowling Hall of Fame on Friday evening, April 14 at the Kegel Klub-Concordia Lanes, New Ulm.

The 2023 inductee for the New Ulm Women’s Bowling Association is Darlyne Deopere. The Men’s Bowling Association is bestowing this year’s Hall of Fame honor to Richard (Dick) Lieb.

Deopere has been involved in bowling for over 40 years. She has a high game of 267, high series of 610 and high average of 159. She’s participated in city, state and national tournaments over the years. Deopere was a board member of the New Ulm Women’s International Bowling Congress and assisted with the hosting of the 2000 Women’s State Tournament held in New Ulm. Deopere bowled in the Koffee Klutch league for over 30 years and held the roles of Secretary or President most of that time. In 2008 she was awarded the Joel and Rheeta Albrecht Enthusiasm Award. Deopere currently bowls in the Primetimers League, where she also serves as president.

Lieb has been an active bowler for nearly 60 years. His high career game is 245, high series is 621 and high career average of 172. Lieb has competed in several tournaments throughout the years including city, state and national tournaments. In 2016 he won the Minnesota State Seniors Tournament for the 70- to 79-year-old age bracket. That win advanced him to represent Minnesota at the National Seniors Tournament in Las Vegas, where Lieb earned an impressive 11th-place finish. He currently bowls in both the Primetimers and Home leagues at Concordia Lanes.
