WASECA — New Ulm shut out Waseca 13-0 in five innings of Big South Conference softball action on Tuesday.

Miranda Suess pitched all five innings in the shutout, giving up three hits and three walks while fanning four. Ramsey Hopp was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base to lead the Eagles at the plate, while Emma Brudelie was 2 for 3 with a homer, four RBIs and a run scored. Maddi O’Connor was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Madelia 10, St. Clair/Loyola 6 (Game 1)

Madelia 6, St. Clair/Loyola 0 (Game 2)

MADELIA — Madelia swept St. Clair/Loyola 10-6 and 6-0 on Thursday in a Valley Conference softball doubleheader.

Corban Tatro led the Blackhawks at the plate in Game 1 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Malia Schwanke, Abby Jacobs and Kellie Koberoski also had two hits in Game 1. Emma Coil got the win, pitching all seven innings and giving up six earned runs while fanning three.

In Game 2, Coil led at the plate with a 4-for-4 game that included two doubles, while Veronica Ibeling was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Lauryn Grev was 2 for 4. Tatro got the win in seven innings, striking out 11.

Madelia (4-3, 1-1) is at Cleveland on Thursday.

MLA 6, Sleepy Eye 3

COMFREY — Mountain Lake Area topped Sleepy Eye 6-3 on Tuesday in a nonconference softball game.

Katelyn Tauer took the loss on the mound for the Indians, finishing with four strikeouts. Brooke Arneson was 2 for 4 with a run scored to lead Sleepy Eye at the plate, while Maddi Helget was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Sleepy Eye hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday for a doubleheader.

LCWM 3, Nicollet 2

LAKE CRYSTAL — Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial topped Nicollet 3-2 on Tuesday in a Valley Conference softball game.

Marah Hulke took the loss for the Raiders in 6 1/3 innings of work, giving up no walks and four hits for one earned run while striking out five. At the plate, Olivia Whitmore homered for Nicollet’s lone hit of the game.

Springfield 8, LCWM 6

LAKE CRYSTAL — Springfield defeated Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 8-6 on Tuesday night in a nonconference softball game.

Megan Ploeger led the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Jaeli Richert was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Richert also got the win in all seven innings, giving up one earned run on three walks and four hits while striking out seven.

St. Mary’s 2, 5 inn.

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield rolled to a 25-2 win over Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game.

The Tigers outhit the Knights 11-3 and had two errors to St. Marys’ eight.

The Tigers were led by Ashtin Johnson’s two hits and three RBIs, while Isaak Lothert had two hits and two RBIs and Luke Boyle had two hits and two RBIs. Jakob Nachreiner got the win in five innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits while fanning six.

Jacob Stevens took the loss for the Knights in one inning of work, giving up seven earned runs on two walks and four hits. Owen Weiss doubled to lead the Knights at the plate.

Madelia 4, 5 inn.

TRUMAN — Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther downed Madelia 16-4 in five innings of a Valley Conference baseball game.

Eric Anderson took the loss for Madelia in 2/3 innings pitched, giving up six unearned runs on four walks and a hit while striking out two. Jake Lehman and Jordan Koberoski each had two hits for Madelia to lead at the plate.

Madelia (4-2, 3-1) hosts Cleveland on Thursday.

Sibley East 10, GFW 0

FAIRFAX — Sibley East defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in five innings on Tuesday.

Hunter Stearns struck out 12 and walked one to earn the win. Layton Hamre took the loss, giving up two earned runs in four innings.

Stearns went 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Wolverines and Sam Ebert was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. GFW (1-5) hosts Sleepy Eye in a doubleheader on Thursday.

MVL boys’ 200, GFW 233

MVL girls’ 263, GFW Inc.

FAIRFAX — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys’ golf team defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 200-233 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet.

MVL’s Ben Pearson was the medalist with a 42, while James Osterman shot a 48 to finish second. The GFW boys were led by Cole Jacobson’s 53.

The MVL girls were led by Abbie Riederer, while GFW’s Marti Jacobson shot a 65.

Springfield boys’ 192, RRC 236

SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield boys’ golf team cruised to a 192-236 win over Red Rock Central on Tuesday in a nonconference golf meet.

Springfield’s Christopher Thram was the medalist, shooting a 40, while Springfield’s Carter Asmus followed that with a 45 for second.

CM boys’ 199, BLHS 230

BUFFALO LAKE — The Cedar Mountain boys’ golf team defeated Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference golf meet.

Despite the loss, BLHS’s Sawyer Melberg was the medalist for the boys with a 48. Cedar Mountain was led by Blake Schueller, Thomas Dahmes and Carson Schiller, who each shot a 49.

Cedar Mountain’s Morgan Engholm was the girls’ medalist, shooting a 45, while Keanna Hultquist followed her with a 59 for second. BLHS’s lone girls’ golfer Ava Albrecht shot a 61.

College softball

MLC 7, NCU 3 (Game 1)

MLC 6, NCU 2 (Game 2)

MINNEAPOLIS — The Martin Luther College softball team swept North Central University (NCU) by the scores of 7-3 and 6-2 in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

In Game 1, Elena Hoffman, Lisa Hoffer, Kylie Wolf and Madison Uhlenbrauck each had two hits for MLC (9-21, 4-12). Uhlenbrauck (4-10) earned the win in the circle for the Knights by allowing only three runs (two earned) in seven innings.

In Game 2, MLC starting pitcher Jessica Horn (3-10) went the distance in the circle and allowed only two runs, no earned, in seven innings. Hoffer was 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Game 2 to lead the Knights.

College baseball

BLC 11, MLC 1, 7 inn.

NEW ULM — The Martin Luther College baseball team could not overcome a huge first inning by Bethany Lutheran College (BLC) in an 11-1 loss on Tuesday.

The Vikings scored nine times in the opening frame, sending 13 batters to the plate and recording seven hits while also taking advantage of a pair of MLC (3-21, 3-11) errors.

Jackson Lindemann led the Knights at the plate with two hits. Jonas Lindemann took the loss for the Knights on the mound, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts.
