New Ulm girls race past TCU, Mathiowetz leads Knights

New Ulm 73, Tri-City United 38

MONTGOMERY — New Ulm defeated Tri-City United in a nonconference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Morgan Hulke had 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Maddie Backer had 15 points and eight rebounds while Kirstin Dennis had 12 points and three steals. Brooklyn Lewis had 11 points and five rebounds for the Eagles.

New Ulm hosts Pipestone on Saturday.

St. Mary’s 66, Wabasso 34

WABASSO — Madison Mathiowetz scored 33 points, had 13 rebounds, six steals and four assists as Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s cruised to a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball victory on Tuesday.

Reagan Severson had seven points, five assists and three steals and Liz Schwint had six points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals. Allie Labat had eight points and three rebounds.

Ashlyn Daub led Wabasso with 11 points.

Wabasso is at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Thursday and St. Mary’s hosts Springfield on Friday.

MVL 79, Sibley East 47

ARLINGTON — Minnesota Valley Lutheran cruised to a nonconference girls’ basketball victory over Sibley East on Tuesday.

Abbie Riederer had 29 points and six rebounds to lead the Chargers. Kaylee Hunter had 16 points and Mia Johnson finished with 12 points and five steals. Sam Dalueg had 10 points and five assists while Ella Schlei finished with seven rebounds.

MVL (1-0) is at Cedar Mountain on Friday.

GFW 67, Cedar Mountain 47

MORGAN — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Cedar Mountain in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Brynn Busse led the Thunderbirds with 31 points and Taylor Haas had 16 points.

Megan Sandgren had 26 points to lead the Cougars. Teresa Larsen finished with 13 points.

Cedar Mountain hosts MVL on Friday and GFW hosts Wabasso on Thursday.

Nicollet 75, St. Clair 63

ST. CLAIR — Nicollet defeated St. Clair in a Valley Conference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Marah Hulke led the Raiders with 24 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Hayley Selby had 20 points, 16 rebounds and four steals, while Brooklyn Bode had 15 points.

Kayli Hinze led St. Clair with 23 points and Brooklin Hinze scored 22.

Nicollet hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Thursday.
