SPRINGFIELD — Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s Luke Thompson threw four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Chargers shocked Springfield in Southwest District football action on Wednesday.

Luke Thompson threw three touchdown passes to Cole Thompson and one to Will Kaesermann. The Tigers scored the first touchdown of the game, but MVL scored 34 straight after that. Luke Thompson also had an interception for the Chargers (4-4), who await their seeding for the upcoming playoffs.

The Tigers scored their lone touchdown on a 62-yard pass from Brendon Buerkle to MaCoy Krick. Buerkle passed for 111 yards, while Ashtin Johnson rushed for 86 yards. Carter Olson had six catches for 35 yards also for Tigers. Ashton Toll, Isaak Lothert and Caleb Hauger each had 10 tackles, while Tate Mathiowetz had an interception.

Springfield completes the regular season 6-2 and awaits playoffs next week.

St. Clair 14, GFW 6

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 14-6 on Wednesday night in a Mid Southeast District, White Subdistrict football game.

Treay Taylor was held to 56 yards rushing and a TD on 17 carries to lead the Thunderbirds, while Nick TenEyck had 47 yards rushing on 13 carries. On defense, GFW was led by Michael Schak’s 5 1/2 tackles, while Easton Taylor recorded a sack.

GFW (6-2) begins playoff football on Tuesday.
