BP’s offense is too Awesome for GFW

WINTHROP — Blooming Prairie’s big-play, high-scoring offense was on full display on Saturday as the Awesome Blossoms struck early and often in a 54-8 victory over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a battle pf Mid Southeast District, White Subdistrict football unbeatens Saturday afternoon.

Blooming Prairie (6-0) amassed 575 yards of total offense compared to 218 for the Thunderbirds and it averaged 13.4 yards per play.

Senior quarterback threw for four touchdowns and 252 yards passing (13 of 20) for the Awesome Blossoms. Tyler Archer led the ground game with nine carries for 198 yards (22 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. He also had a 37-yard touchdown reception and had three total touchdowns in the first quarter.

GFW’s Treay Taylor was limited in the backfield, finishing with 20 carries for 53 yards and a 7-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Taylor also had four catches for 33 yards.

GFW quarterback Brody Hentges finished 9 for 19 for 64 yards passing and Jack Panitzke also had 36 yards rushing for the Thunderbirds.

Archer and Awesome Blossoms wasted little time of getting on the board as Archer took the second carry from scrimmage and raced 48 yards four a touchdown and a 6-0 lead. After a GFW punt, Archer again was off to the races, this time for a 71-yard touchdown run that made it 12-0.

The Thunderbirds were forced to punt again on their next possession, but the recovered a fumble on that punt and got the ball down on the Blooming Prairie 15. There, Taylor needed just two plays to score, running it in from 7 yards out to make it 12-8 with 3:28 left in the first quarter after the 2-point conversion, which he also scored.

After that, though, it was all Blooming Prairie.

Archer caught a pass and ran it down the sidelines for a 37-yard score to make 19-8 with 1:07 left in the first quarter.

Blooming Prairie added to the lead and got a touchdown reception from Xavier Rennie (25 yards) to make it 26-8, and Kittleson later found Colin Jordison for a 44-yard score to make it 33-8, where it stood at halftime.

Jordison caught his second touchdown pass of the game in the third quarter and Kittleson later ran in a 14-yard touchdown to make it 47-8. Brady Kittelson finished the scoring for the Awesome Blossoms with a 63-yard run in the fourth quarter. He finished with two carries for 73 yards and Drew Kittleson had three carries for 28 yards and the score.

Jordison finished the game with four catches with 95 yards receiving and two touchdowns and Carson Brennecke caught five passes for 70 yards.

Jack Panitzke and Hentges each had four tackles for the Thunderbirds. GFW looks to get back into the win column next Friday when it hosts Waterville-Elysian-Morristown.
