Fairmont sweeps New Ulm in tennis

NEW ULM — Fairmont defeated New Ulm 7-0 on Thursday in a Big South girls’ tennis match.

“Fairmont typically has a solid program,” Eagles head coach Pete Engledinger said. “We’ve played some strong teams.”

In No. 1 singles, Makiah Otto lost 6-2, 6-2, in No. 2 singles, Lydia King lost 6-0, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, Lana Braun lost 6-2, 6-3 and in No. 4 singles, Nevaeh Ubl lost 6-1, 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, Malia Emerson and Emily guggisberg lost 6-2, 6-1, in No. 2 doubles, Lilian Merkel and Melanie Merkel lost 6-3, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles Katie Wilker and Calyn Glaser lost 6-3, 6-2.

Engeldinger said New Ulm will host the inagural Eagle Invite on Saturday. Sleepy Eye Area, Maple River and Redwood Valley will be the other schools participating.
