SLEEPY EYE — New Ulm Legion Gold scored five runs in the first two innings and then added three runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to down Worthington 12-1 Friday night in an elimination game in the Division 1, Sub-State 2 Legion Baseball Tournament.

Jaden Drill got the win for Gold. He allowed one run and scattered five hits while striking out four.

Nate Van Orman took the loss for Worthington.

Jackson Bode had three hits to lead Gold. Cole Ranweiler and Drill also each had two hits for New Ulm. Ranweiler had a three-run home run in the seventh.

Drill had two doubles, while Ranweiler drove in five runs. Bode had a triple, while Carter Lang had two RBIs.

Gold now plays Mankato National at 11 a.m. Saturday in Sleepy Eye in an elimination game.

The winner of that game will meet Mankato American for the Sub-State 2 title.

Gold wasted little time in getting the jump on Worthington, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Bode led off with a single and took second on a wild pitch. He scored on a Ranweiler single. A stolen base and walks to Drill and Tony Geiger preceded an infield error that scored two more runs.

New Ulm added two more runs in the second inning. Jack Albrecht walked and swiped second. Bode reached on a bunt single.

A single from Hunter Sehr scored Albrecht before a Ranweiler sacrifice fly added another run.

Worthington scored its only run of the game in the third.

But Gold added three more runs in the sixth. Albrecht coaxed his second walk of the game and took third on a wild pitch. Ranweiler walked before Lang singled them both in. Lang came around to score on Drill’s first double of the game.

Gold then salted the game away in the top of the seventh. Sam Keckeisen doubled and scored on a Bode triple. Sehr walked before Ranweiler lined a home run over the fence in left.

New Ulm had 10 hits in the game.
