Sleepy Eye VFW splits DH with St. James on Saturday

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye VFW split a VFW baseball doubleheader with St. James on Saturday, falling 6-4 in Game 1 before winning Game 2 by a score of 15-5 in five innings.

In Game 1, Owen Weiss had a double and Nick Mielke was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Mark Anderson threw 4 2/3 innings and allowed three hits for one earned run while striking out six.

In Game 2, Sleepy Eye ended things early with a 12-run fifth. Marcus Martinez got the win in relief, pitching one inning and striking out two. Jake Price started and went four innings, allowing two earned runs.

At the plate, Price was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Martinez was 1 for 3 with a bases-clearing triple. Talan Helget was 2 for 3 with an RBI also for Sleepy Eye, while Kaleb Butenhoff was 1 for 2 with three RBIs.

Sleepy Eye is now 6-2 overall and is at BOLD for a doubleheader Tuesday.
