Stark walks off against Hanska on Wednesday night

STARK — The Stark Longhorns got a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth from Mason Cox to top Hanska 11-10 on Wednesday night in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

Cox was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for Stark, while Brandon Helget and Sean Mathiowetz each went 4 for 6 with three RBIs apiece. Helget had two homers.

Jace Marotz got the win in five innings of relief, allowing four earned runs on four hits and four walks while fanning five.

Hanska got a home run from Kevin Larson, who was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Matt Suess was 2 for 3 for Hanska.

Brandon Peterson took the loss in 4 2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and two walks for six earned runs. He struck out three.

Courtland 7, Sleepy Eye 4

SLEEPY EYE — The Courtland Cubs held off the Sleepy Eye Indians 7-4 on Wednesday night in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action.

The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Courtland’s Cole Backer held on in relief of winning pitcher Teddy Giefer, who pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on three walks and four hits.

Giefer struck out seven, while Backer added four strikeouts.

Tad Voegs led the Cubs at the plate, going 3 for 4, while Hunter Johnson was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Matt Mielke took the loss for the Indians in seven innings, giving up seven hits and a walk for three earned runs while fanning four. Carter Brinkman had two homers and four RBIs to lead Sleepy Eye.
