New Ulm Brewers crush Cubs 11-2

NEW ULM — Of the 12 hits collected by the New Ulm Brewers Wednesday night in their Tomahawk East League game against Courtland, seven went for extra bases.

New Ulm slammed out five doubles, a triple and a home run as the Brewers rolled by the Cubs 11-2 at Johnson Park.

Wade French got the win for the Brewers, now 5-0 in TEL play. French went seven innings and scattered five hits. He struck out seven and allowed one run.

Keith Besemer took the loss for Courtland, now 3-2.

He went two innings and was charged with four runs on five hits.

Judd Davis led the Brewers with three hits, including a two-run home run and a double. He had three RBIs.

J.T. Hoffmann and Brody Peterson each had two hits. Each had a double. Cole Ranweiler had a triple.

Teddy Giefer had three hits for Courtland.

The Brewers, who play at Essig at 5 p.m Sunday, fell behind the Cubs in the top of the first when Jackson Bode singled and came around to score on a Giefer RBI single.

New Ulm scored four runs in the bottom of the second when they hit for the cycle as a team.

Braden Zimmerman walked and scored on a Ranweiler triple. Ranweiler trotted home on a Peterson double before Davis hammered Besemer’s first pitch over the fence in right field. Hoffmann completed the cycle in the inning with an infield single.

New Ulm scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Two of the runs in the fourth came on a Hoffmann double.

In the fifth, two runs came in on an Andrew Peters double.

New Ulm added its final run in the eighth on a Colton Schaefer single.
