Selby no-hits GFW, Nicollet wins 10-0

NICOLLET — Nicollet pitcher Haley Selby pitched a no-hitter to help the Raiders defeat Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 10-0 in six innings on Monday in a nonconference softball game.

Nicollet scored eight runs in the sixth inning.

Selby pitched all six innings, having only allowed one walk while striking out nine batters. GFW’s Morgan Aylsworth was the lone base runner when she reached on a lead-off walk in the top of the first inning. She stole second, and that was as far as any Thunderbird got in the game.

In the bottom of the second, Selby reached base when the GFW catcher overthrew first base on a third strike. GFW made two more errors on the play, placing Selby on third. Sam Kettner’s triple brought in Selby for the Raider’s first run.

Nicollet added another run in the third inning. Marah Hulke singled, stole second and she moved to third on a sacrifice. Hulke scored on Brooklyn Bode’s single to left field for a 2-0 Raider lead.

Bode got a lead-off single in the sixth inning. She reached when the throw from third to first base pulled her off the bag. Bode stole second and third. She scored on an GFW error, making it 3-0 Nicollet.

Leah Bode reached on an error and scored on another GFW error. Two more errors resulted in the Raiders’ fourth run.

Selby bunted, moved to second on an error and to third on a passed ball. Olivia Whitmore single scored Nicollet’s fifth run. Two walks and an error made it 6-0 Nicollet.

The Raiders loaded the bases when Megan Arndt walked. Two walks, two singles and two wild pitches resulted in Nicollet scoring its final three runs.

GFW pitcher Brooklyn Werner performed well for the first five innings in the circle. She had a total of eight strikeouts, two runs and three hits up to that point. She finished the game pitching six innings and giving up 10 runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out 12.

Nicollet (14-5) will play at Minnesota Valley Lutheran (2-14) on Tuesday. GFW (6-12) will host Tri-City United on Monday.
