NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral’s 14 unanswered runs erased a six-run deficit and led to a 15-7 comeback win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart in Tomahawk Conference baseball action Friday at Mueller Park.

Nic Taylor cruised through the first four innings on the mound for the Mustangs before the Greyhounds scored six runs off of him in the bottom of the fifth to knot things up at 7-all. The inning saw six Cathedral hits, led by a bases-clearing three-run double off the bat of Brody Kirschstein.

Kirschstein also ended up driving in the go-ahead run in the sixth off of BLHS reliever Cale Luthens, who took the loss in 1/3 of an inning.

“These past couple games, we’ve put ourselves in challenging places where we don’t really want to be — we’re not really competing,” Kirschstein said. “And I think towards the end of the game, it’s usually the last three innings, we spark up and start hitting. And that’s what happened [against BLHS].”

Kyle Seidl got the win for the Greyhounds in 3 1/3 innings of relief of starter Carter Haala. Seidl allowed three runs on two walks and five hits while striking out one. Justin Berg got the save in a 1-2-3 seventh.

BLHS first struck for four runs in the third, led by a two-run single from Braden McColley. The Greyhounds got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by Sam Knowles.

The Mustangs got an RBI triple in the fourth from Luthens and an RBI each from Chase Hubin and Jack Maiers in the fifth to lead 7-1.

Then the bottom of the inning came and the Greyhounds came to life. In addition to Kirschstein’s big double, the Greyhounds also got from RBI singles from David Wilfahrt and Riley Prochniak.

The inning also saw singles from Seidl, Haala and Berg.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Mustangs sent Luthens and Maiers to the mound, but the Greyhounds continued pounding the ball. After a Kirschstein single put the Greyhounds in front 8-7, Seidl and Isaiah Rieser later highlighted the inning with a two-run double and two-run triple, respectively.

In addition to his win on the mound, Seidl also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs to lead the Greyhounds.

McColley and Caleb Weispfennig led the Mustangs at the plate with two hits apiece.

Cathedral (11-3, 9-3) is at Lake Crystal on Tuesday, while BLHS (3-8, 1-8) is at Wabasso for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
