Hubmen get past Chargers in 2AA playoffs

JORDAN — Jordan raced to a double-digit halftime lead and didn’t let Minnesota Valley Lutheran get within striking distance in the second half, defeating MVL 68-51 on Saturday in Section 2AA boys’ basketball action.

Cold shooting ended up hurting the Chargers early on as they shot 28% from the floor compared to 49% for the Hubmen.

The loss ends MVL’s season at 14-5 while the Hubmen improved to 9-11.

Down 35-22 at halftime, the Chargers were able to keep pace with Jordan but they weren’t able to cut into the lead by much. A 3-pointer from Eli Schoof with 14:50 left made it 43-33. Later, a three-point play from Leyton Brau made it an 11-point game (47-36), but the Hubmen soon went up 53-36 on a fast break basket with 10:20 left.

Baskets by Christian Edwards and Kyreis Harrison brought MVL to within 13 at 53-40, but the Hubmen eventually stretched the lead to 65-46 and then 68-46 on a 3-pointer with 2:43 to go.

MVL was led by Luke Thompson, who finished with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Harrison scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Edwards also hit double figures, scoring 11 points.

The Hubmen also had three players in double figures and were led by Isaac Young’s 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Ashton Sivilay scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Reagan Koch scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jordan out-rebounded MVL 35-22 and it had 18 turnovers compared to 15 for MVL.

Jordan, the No. 1 seed in the Section 2AA, North Subsection bracket, will play the winner of No. 2 Glencoe-Silver Lake and No. 3 Belle Plaine at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Jordan.
