NEW ULM — Leading start to finish, the Jackson County Central Huskies won their third game overall on the season with a 77-62 victory over the New Ulm Eagles Friday night.

Carter Ahrens and Travis Rogotzke paced the Huskies (3-12, 2-10 in the Big South West) with 13 points each.

Josh Wenninger led the Eagles, 2-6 in the Big South East and 4-8 overall, with a game-high 25 points. Connor Slette added 11.

For the Eagles, who host Fairmont tonight, it was a case of having a hard time of getting out of the blocks.

JCC built leads of 15-6 and 22-10.

New Ulm did slice into that lead and cut it to 24-16 on a Colton Benson 3-pointer.

But the Huskies responded with an 8-0 run that regained momentum for them that saw them double up the score on the Eagles at 32-16.

JCC kept the lead at double-digits in the first half and carried a 50-34 lead into halftime.

Wenninger’s basket for New Ulm started a mini 6-0 run that cut the lead to 52-42 and a Slette basket with 13 minutes left in the game sliced the lead to 54-48.

A Hunter Sehr 3-pointer at the 9:21 mark pulled New Ulm to within 64-55 and a Wenninger free throw pulled New Ulm to within 67-58 at the 8:21 mark.

But that was as close as New Um was able to come to the Huskies the rest of the game.

Starting at $4.50/week.
