Cedar Mountain girls defeat Cathedral

Cedar Mountain 60, Cathedral 47

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain picked up its second consecutive win on Tuesday night by defeating New Ulm Cathedral 60-47 in Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball action.

Teresa Larsen led the Cougars with 21 points and eight rebounds, while Nadia Meyers and Paige Rose each added 12 points. Megan Sandgren also had 9 points and 10 rebounds for Cedar Mountain.

Cathedral was led by Lily Franta’s 14 points, while Sarah Mohr added 11 points. Livia Reinarts and Claire Olson each had 9 points for the Greyhounds.

Cedar Mountain (2-9, 1-8) hosts Sleepy Eye on Monday, while Cathedral (0-9, 0-8) hosts Wabasso on Friday.

St. Mary’s 79, GFW 34

WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s ran past Gibbon-Fairfax-Wintrop on Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

Madison Mathiowetz scored 35 points and Sydney Windschitl scored 13 for the Knights. Brynn Busse had 19 points for the Thunderbirds.

Sleepy Eye 58, Springfield 38

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye defeated Springfield in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game.

The Indians were led by Kadence Hesse with 20 points and five steals. Brea Mertz scored 11 points and had 14 rebounds and four steals. Brooklyn Moldan had 9 points and six rebounds.

Sleepy Eye is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday. Springfield (6-5) hosts GFW on Friday.

AC/GE 83, Madelia 46

MADELIA — Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons defeated Madelia in Valley Conference girls’ basketball action on Tuesday.

Danika Eisenmenger finished with 16 points and Ollie Glover had 12 points for Madelia. Abbie Theusch led AC/GE with 25 points and Lauren Heskett scored 16 points.

Madelia is at Martin County West on Thursday.

RRC 67, MCC 37

LAMBERTON — Red Rock Central defeated Murray County Central in a Red Rock Conference girls’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Carli Arkell led the Falcons with 23 points and Nichole Schroepfer finished with 11. Lily Stavnes had 10 points.

Boys’ basketball

St. Mary’s 92, GFW 65

SLEEPY EYE — Trent Steffensmeier led all scorers with 26 points as Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Carson Domeier scored 21 points and Kaleb Wait finished with 16 points for the Knights. Jacob Lux (10) and Will Walter (9) also were top scorers.

Damian Hopp led GFW with 16 points.

Sleepy Eye 71, Springfield 63

SPRINGFIELD — Sleepy Eye defeated Springfield and picked up its first win of the season in the process on Tuesday in Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball action.

Kegan Heiderscheidt scored 23 points and Mason Sellner scored 17 for the Indians. Erizen Traconis scored 14 and Marcus Martinez scored 13.

Mason Leonard led the Tigers with 24 points and Dylan Batzlaff scored 16. Brendan Buerkle had 11 points.

Springfield (6-5) is at GFW on Friday. Sleepy Eye (1-10) hosts Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

Wabasso 68, MVL 67

WABASSO — Wabasso defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday.

Kyreis Harrison led the Chargers with 24 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Eli Schoof scored 17 points and Leyton Brau scored 12 points.

For Wabasso, Will Carlson scored 24 points and Isaac Kronback scored 15. Jayden Goblirsch finished with 12 points and Sam Fenger scored 10 points.

MVL is at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday.

Prep wrestling

Springfield 46, Ortonville 36

F-MCC 47, Springfield 33

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield went 1-1 in a wrestling triangular on Tuesday.

The Tigers had six wrestlers go 2-0 on the night. They were Wyatt Schmidt (120), Joe Anderson (145, now 21-0 on the year), Ashtin Johnson (160), Kadin Johnson (170), Mitchell Streich (220) and Shane Clemon (heavyweight).

Girls hockey

Minn. River 2, New Ulm 0

ST. PETER — Minnesota River defeated New Ulm in a Big South Conference girls’ hockey game on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs got two goals in the third period to break the scoreless tie.

New Ulm is at Dodge County on Thursday.
