NEW ULM — New Ulm defeated Blue Earth Area in a Big South Conference gymnastics meet on Friday.

Kayla Goblirsch took first on vault (9.35), first on bars (8.425) and first in all-around (35) for the Eagles. Olivia Eckstein finished first on beam (8.95) and Ella Friederich finished first in the floor exercise (9.3).

New Ulm hosts Waseca next Thursday.

Prep wrestling

LSH 58, M-T/ML 6

Sibley East 84, M-T/ML 0

LE SUEUR — Madelia-Truman/Martin Luther was swept by LeSueur-Henderson and Sibley East on Friday night in prep wrestling action.

The Jayhawks received a forfeit in their match against LSH for their lone victory.

Boys’ basketball

CM 52, MVL 48

MORGAN — Devonte Charles scored 19 points and Brandon Pendleton scored 13 points as Cedar Mountain upset Minnesota Valley Lutheran in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball on Friday night.

Kyreis Harrison scored 13 points and Christian Edwards scored 10 to lead MVL (9-2). MVL is at Wabasso on Tuesday and Cedar Mountain (5-6) is at New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.

GFW 80, Wabasso 52

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop held Wabasso to 16 points in the second half and defeated the Rabbits in a Tomahawk Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday.

For GFW, Dominic Henrichs had 18 points and Johnnie Ambrose and Damian Hopp each scored 15 points. Lorenzo Catapano scored 12 points for the Thunderbirds.

Isaac Kronback led Wabasso with 17 points and Will Carlson scored 10 points.

Girls’ basketball

Wabasso 48, GFW 37

WABASSO — Wabasso’s Avery Carlson scored 15 points and Sarah Franta scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Rabbits past Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a Tomahawk Conference girls’ basketball game on Friday.

Bella Brand also had 12 points for the Rabbits.

GFW did not submit any statistics.

Boys’ hockey

New Ulm 6, MN RIver 1

LE SUEUR — New Ulm topped Minnesota River 6-1 on Friday night in Big South Conference hockey action.

Keagan Schiro led New Ulm with two goals, while Jace Addy had a goal and two assists and Noah Wilmes added a goal and two assists. AJ Arneson and Blake Soukup also had a goal and an assist each for New Ulm, while Josh Gulden, Kadon Strong, Braxten Hoffmann, Jacob Berg and Jack Albrecht each added an assist.

Joey Gag had 15 saves in net for New Ulm.

New Ulm (8-2) hosts Minnesota River on Tuesday.

Junior hockey

Granite City 6, New Ulm 1

NEW ULM — Granite City defeated New Ulm 6-1 in NA3HL junior hockey action on Friday.

Tommy Broten scored New Ulm’s only goal on the night.

Tucker Skime had three goals to lead Granite City. Cody Dias, Noah Bissett and Brett Reed also scored a goal for the Lumberjacks.

Granite City outshot New Ulm 37-10 for the game.

New Ulm is at Alexandria on Saturday.
