NEW ULM — The Minnesota Valley Lutheran boys’ basketball team remained unbeaten as the Chargers downed Wabasso 70-55 on Friday in Tomahawk Conference action.

Both teams ran up-tempo offenses for the entire game. MVL was able to rebound well, capitalize on Wabasso miscues and score points often.

MVL led for the entire contest. Wabasso tied the game once very early in the first half. After that, MVL played solid basketball.

The Chargers’ Eli Schoof hit a 3-point shot late in the first half to increase their lead to 30-15. Two plays later, Leyton Brau scored on a fast-break layup. MVL led 35-22 at halftime.

Wabasso started making some noise early in the second half. Will Carlson hit a 3-pointer, made two free throws and he added a basket making it 35-29 MVL.

When it appeared as if Wabasso was going to gain some momentum, MVL responded with baskets. Christian Edwards scored on an inside basket. Carter Sexton nailed a 3 and Brau made a layup off a scramble for a loose ball.

Wabasso’s Carlson hit a 3-pointer and Isaac Kronback scored on a layup to cut the deficit to 47-40 MVL.

Brau was able to get close to the basket to score. Sexton canned a 3-pointer to give the Chargers some breathing room.

Brau led MVL with 17 points, Edwards added 12 points, Sexton had 11 points and Kyreis Harrison had 10 points with 15 rebounds.

Carlson scored 20 points and he had seven rebounds for Wabasso. Kronback added 12 points and six rebounds. Sam Fenger had 11 rebounds and 8 points.
