Mathiowetz, Riederer, Schommer highlight All-Journal volleyball teams

2020 All-Journal Volleyball

First Team

Madison Mathiowetz, Jr., MH, St. Mary’s

Mathiowetz finished her junior campaign with 196 kills and 155 digs. The All-Conference player also had 16 blocks, 12 aces and had a 95% serving percentage.

Abbie Riederer, Jr., OH, MVL

Riederer led the Chargers in kills (168), digs (171) and aces (26) during her junior campaign in 12 matches. The two-year starter also had nine blocks and six set assists.

Emily Schommer, Jr., S, Cathedral

Schommer had 323 set assists and 102 digs this year for the Greyhounds. She served 91.9% and had a team-high 23 service aces.

Julia Schweiss, Jr., MH, GFW

Schweiss had 148 kills for the Thunderbirds this past year. She also had 66 digs and 43 total blocks.

Natalie Yackley, Jr., S, NUHS

The two-year starter helped lead the Eagles to a East Division championship in the Big South and finished with 267 set assists, 19 ace serves and 50 digs.

Sarah Mohr, Sr., Libero/MB, Cathedral

Mohr finished with 58 kills and served 99.2% this year. Her 97.2% career serve percentage is first in school history. She also had 105 digs (740 career, second all-time at CHS) and her 559 career kills are fourth in school history.

Second Team

Sydnee Helget, So., MB, Cathedral

Helget led the Greyhounds in kills with 149 and 20.5 block kills. She was second on the team in ace serves (21) and serving percentage (97.7%).

Allison Dornseif, Jr., S, BLHS

Dornseif led the Mustangs in serving percentage at 96%. She finished the year with 335 set assists, 100 digs, 22 kills, 18 blocks and 18 aces.

Allie Labat, So., S, St. Mary’s

Labat finished her sophomore season with 261 set assists and 109 digs. An honorable mention in the Tomahawk Conference, Labat also had 17 ace serves and served at 97%.

Brynn Busse, So., S, GFW

Busse had 171 digs, 77 kills and 183 set assists for the Thunderbirds this year.

Brooklyn Sturm, Fr., MH, Springfield

Sturm finished a solid freshman season for the Tigers with 122 kills. She also had 116 digs, 25 total blocks (eight solo) and a serving percentage of 90.9%.

Riley Melby, Sr., MH, NUHS

Melby was named All-Conference and finished the year with 102 kills, 10 blocks, 15 ace serves and 23 digs.

Third Team

Jaeli Richert, So., S, Springfield

Richert finished her sophomore year with 235 set assists and 87 digs. She also had a 93.6% serving percentage and 29 ace serves.

Marah Hulke, Jr., S, Nicollet

Hulke finished the season with 171 set assists and 144 digs. She also had 70 kills and 23 blocks to go with her 18 ace serves.

Hayley Selby, Jr., MH, Nicollet

Selby had 93 kills and 139 digs from the middle this year for the Raiders. She also had 19 blocks and 19 aces on the season.

Nadia Meyers, So., S/OH, CM

Meyers led the team in set assists this season with 178 in 12 matches. She also had 143 digs, 75 kills and served at 93% with 24 aces.

Nicole Albrecht, Sr., L, NUHS

Albrecht led the Eagles with 163 digs and was named All-Conference this year. She also served 91 percent this year.

Katie Buboltz, Sr., L, BLHS

Buboltz led the Mustangs in digs during her senior year with 229. She also had 20 set assists, 16 aces and had a 95.9% serving percentage.
