SPRINGFIELD — Murray County Central got a late 2-yard touchdown run from Dylan Johnson and remained unbeaten with a 30-23 Southwest District football win on Friday.

The Tigers had one drive late in game, but an incomplete pass on fourth down ended their chance.

The Rebels jumped out to a 9-0 lead early on thanks to a safety late in the first quarter and then a pass to Dawson Tutt that made it 9-0.

Springfield got on the board on its first play from scrimmage on the ensuing drive after Kadin Johnson broke a tackle on the sideline and ran 88 yards for the score to make it 9-7 with 6:09 left in the first half.

The Rebels took a 15-7 lead into halftime when they scored with one second left in the half on a touchdown pass to Carter Benda.

Springfield again showed the big-play ability in the third quarter when Brendon Buerkle found Jordan Toll for a 92-yard touchdown strike. MaCoy Krick caught the 2-point conversion to tie it at 15-15.

After the Rebels used a long scoring drive on their next drive to go up 22-15 thanks to a touchdown from Dylan Johnson, the Tigers responded with a 10-yard touchdown run by Ashtin Johnson. They then took their first lead of the game when Kadin Johnson scored on the 2-point conversion to make it 23-22.
