Chargers pick up big road win against Adrian

MVL 24, Adrian 6

ADRIAN — Luke Thompson threw three touchdown passes and he led the Chargers to their first win of the season on Friday night in a Southwest District, East Subdistrict football game.

Nick Bleick had a 17-yard scoring reception and Cole Thompson had a 22-yard touchdown reception. David Santelmann scored MVL’s third touchdown on an 18-yard reception.

Defensively, Josh Giefer had a punt block and a fumble recovery and Christian Edwards had an interception.

MVL (1-2) hosts Springfield on Friday.

Maple River 34, GFW 16

MAPLETON — Maple River defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop in a South Central Blue football game on Friday night.

Dominic Henrichs scored a 49-yard touchdown for the Thunderbirds in the first quarter and Damian Hopp had a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Henrichs finished the game with 158 yards rushing.

RCW 18, Madelia 0

MADELIA — Renville County West shut out Madelia in a 9-man football game on Friday night.

RCW senior quarterback Brandon Hoberg threw two touchdown passes to Riley Ashburn and Hoberg also had a two-yard touchdown run.

For Madelia, senior quarterback Ethan Arndt ran 17 times for 130 yards. Arndt was 7-of-6 passing for 126 yards.

Prep volleyball

Cathedral 3, Springfield 1

NEW ULM — New Ulm Cathedral defeated Springfield 22-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 on Friday in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match.

Emily Schommer had 31 set assists for the Greyhounds and Lily Franta and Lily Brennan each had 16 digs. Megan Haala had 21 digs and Sydney Helget had 14 kills.

Late Thursday

St. Mary’s 3, GFW 1

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 25-15 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

Julia Schweiss had 14 kills for GFW and Brynn Busse finished with nine kills, 14 digs and 11 set assists. Hannah Thorsen had 15 set assists.

For the Knights, Bella Hoffmann had 20 set assists and 14 digs. Allie Labat had 29 set assists and 14 digs and Trista Ibberson had 15 kills and five digs. Jaci Domeier finished with 10 kills and Sydney Windschitl had 25 digs. Emily Weiss had seven kills and Madison Mathiowetz had 19 kills and nine digs.

Cleveland 3, Nicollet 0

CLEVELAND — Cleveland made quick work of Nicollet Thursday night in the Valley Conference sweep.

Marah Hulke had six set assists and three kills and Hayley Selby had eight digs, three kills and four blocks. Brooklyn Gohr had three kills.
