Faribault knocks out New Ulm in 2A playoffs

FARIBAULT — Faribault ended New Ulm’s season at 3-6-3 with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles in Section 2A playoff action on Monday.

Isaac Blumhoefer scored New Ulm’s only goal with Leo Waloch assisting on the play.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

GFW 3, MVL 1

WINTHROP — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16 on Monday in Tomahawk Conference volleyball action.

Abbie Riederer had 23 kills and 26 digs for the Chargers and Sam Daleug had 46 set assists and 29 digs. Lili Mohrer had seven kills and Ella Schlei had 12 kills and two blocks.

MVL (1-2) is at Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Tuesday.

St. Mary’s 3, Wabasso 0

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s swept Wabasso 25-16, 25-12, 25-13 in a Tomahawk Conference volleyball match on Monday.

Madison Mathiowetz led the Knights with 10 kills and 11 digs and Sydney Windschitl had 13 digs and three kills. Bella Hoffmann had 16 set assists and three digs.

St. Mary’s is at New Ulm Cathedral on Wednesday.

Late Saturday: JCC 3, New Ulm 1

NEW ULM — Jackson County Central defeated New Ulm 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 on Saturday in a Big South Conference volleyball game.

Natalie Yackley had 35 set assists and Ella Landsteiner had six kills and 14 digs. Ella Friederich had 12 digs and Nicole Albrecht had 14 digs. Maddie O’Conner finished with 13 digs.

New Ulm (1-1) is at St. James on Tuesday.
