VFW Silver downs LSH

NEW ULM — New Ulm Silver took advantage of six errors and defeated LeSueur-Henderson 10-7 on Thursday at Mueller Park.

Ethan Hathaway reached on a lead-off single to right field in the top of the first inning. He stole second and he moved to third on an error. Ben Miller’s single brought in Hathaway for a 1-0 LSH lead.

Silver responded in its half of the first inning. Jack Albrecht reached on an error, he stole second and he advanced to third on Bake Soukup’s single. Albrecht scored on another LSH error to tie it a 1-1. Later, Taylor Hansen reached on an error. Anton Freiderich’s single to center field scored Hansen and Soukup to give Silver a lead for good at 3-1.

Ben Hohensee reached base in the second on an error. Albrecht’s center field single scored Hohensee. Albrecht scored two plays later on another LSH error for a 5-1 Silver advantage after two innings.

Hathaway answered for LSH when he beat out an infield hit in the top of the third inning. Sam Gupton reached on an error and the pair scored on a single by Aiden Gulbranson. He scored on Logan Feeney’s right field single, cutting the Silver’s lead to 5-4.

Albrecht reached on an error in the fourth inning for Silver. He stole second and third base and he scored on Hansen’s single. Austin Enter walked and he later scored on Soukup’s single for a 7-4 Silver advantage.

Thomas Finstad was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning. He scored later on Carter Haala’s triple to the left field fence. Albrecht’s single scored courtesy runner Brett Menk for Silver’s ninth run.

Brogan McMillen and Talen Schwandt belted back-to-back doubles resulting in another run for LSH in the sixth inning. Ben Miller’s double scored Schwandt and Hathaway making it 9-7 Silver.

Soukup belted a double to center field in the sixth inning. He scored on Friederich’s double for the 10-7 final.
