Big first inning lifts Tigers past New Ulm

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and defeated New Ulm 6-1 in Tomahawk East League amateur baseball action on Tuesday.

Brandon Wilhelmi earned the win for Springfield. He pitched five innings and allowed one run on three hits. He struck out four and walked two.

Jordan Milbrath started for the Tigers. He pitched four innings and struck out seven. He allowed three hits and four walks.

Wade French took the loss for the Brewers. He went eight innings, allowed six runs on 12 hits. He struck out nine.

For Springfield, Pat Moriarty was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and Mitch Leonard was 2 for 4. Jacob Poehler was 2 for 5.

Andrew Peters was 2 for 5 for New Ulm and Jaden Domeier was 2 for 4.
