Orioles top Springfield in Tomahawk East

LEAVENWORTH — The Leavenworth Orioles jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of their game against Springfield Wednesday, and held on for a 2-1 win over the Tigers in Tomahawk East League action.

Jevan Richert was the winning pitcher for Leavenworth, going seven innings and giving up one runs on three hits, one errors and one walk. Matt Helget pitched the final two innings, picking up the save with two walks and two strikeouts.

Isaac Fink took the loss for the Tigers, pitching 4 innings, giving up the two runs in the first. He gave up two hits with four walks andthree strikeouts. Jordan Milbrath pitched four scoreless innings in relief, striking out six.

Brewers beat SE

SLEEPY EYE — The New Ulm Brewers topped Sleepy Eye 15-5 on Tuesday in a game originally scheduled for this Friday, but rescheduled last week.

The Brewers at 1-0 in the Tomahawk East, half a game behind the 2-0 Hanska Lakers. The Indians are 1-1.

Essig tops Cubs

COURTLAND — The Essig Bluejays beat the Courtland Cubs 10-5 Wednesday in Tomahawk East action, the first game for both teams in the Tomahawk.

Courtland scored four runs in the first and one in the fifth, but Essig countered with two runs in the third and fourth inning, and finished strong with six runs in the last three innings, including aa 4-run 8th, for the win.

Noland Drill was the winning pitcher for Essig, coming on in relief for Eric Scheibel in the fifth. Hunter Sehr finished the game with two scoreless innings.

Theodore Giefer took the loss for the Cubs, giving up three runs on two hits, three errors and five walks. He came in to relieve Cole Backer in the 4th after the Bluejays tied the score at 4.

Leadoff batter Jordan Guggisberg scored four runs for the Bluejays, after drawing four walks and a hit. Nolan Drill and Kyle Krzmarzick had two RBI apiece for Essig.

Giefer and Hunter Johnson were both 4-for-4 with two RBI each for the Cubs.
