Eagle girls top Waconia

WACONIA — The New Ulm girls’ hockey team defeated Waconia 6-1 in a nonconference game on Monday.

Maddie O’Connor scored two goals in the third period to lead the way for New Ulm. O’Connor also had an assist in the game.

Molly Scheid scored New Ulm’s first goal and Brooke Arneson added the second goal for the Eagles.

The Eagles went up 3-0 after McKenna Strong scored off an assist from O’Connor. Julia Helget scored a power-play goal off an assist from Alexa Steffl, and Steffl assisted O’Connor’s first goal of the game. Strong also had an assist for the Eagles, who are scheduled to host Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday night.

Ava Brennan stopped nine of 10 shots she faced.
