Southwest District announces All-District team
The Southwest District announced its All-District football teams and honorable mentions for 2019 on Monday, with eight Springfield players leading the way in honors from the east.
Making the East team from Springfield were seniors Ivan Hovland, Nolan Hovland, Dylan Rubey, Mason Rummel, Decker Scheffler and Curtis Tauer, while juniors Kadin Johnson and Jordan Toll were named honorable mentions. Rummel was also named the East’s MVP, while Scheffler was named the Offensive Back of the Year in the East.
Springfield head coach Bob Fink was also named the East’s Coach of the Year.
Wabasso had seven total players honored in the east, with seniors Cole Frericks, Zach Thooft and Lance Wagner making the team along with juniors Will Carlson and Colby Wall. Juniors Carter Benz and Nick Marotzke were named honorable mentions.
For New Ulm Cathedral, seniors Tony Geiger, Chris Knowles and Jon Zinniel made the East team, while senior Josh Kretsch and junior Jacob Berg being named honorable mentions.
For Minnesota Valley Lutheran, seniors Colton Collum, Mason Cox and Jace Marotz made East the team, while senior Carlos Ramirez and junior Luke Peterson were named honorable mentions. Collum was also named the East’s Defensive Back of the Year.
Sleepy Eye had senior Juan Cortez and Jacob Meyer make the East team, while seniors Ethan Fischer and Matthew Sellner were named honorable mentions.
