New Ulm Steel open home season Thursday

NEW ULM — After playing their first five games on the road, the New Ulm Steel (3-2) will open their home season Thursday and Friday night at the New Ulm Civic Center with games against Alexandria (3-3) and Coulee Region (3-4) respectively before heading to LaCrosse, Wisconsin for a back-to-back against the Chill Saturday.

Thursday and Friday’s game have a 7:10 p.m. puck drop.

Thursday is also Domino’s of New Ulm Night where magnetic home schedules will be handed out. Friday is CW Plumbing of New Ulm night with pink “Together We Fight” breast cancer wristbands given away.

With three games in three nights after playing just one game a week, Steel coach Zach Stepan said that they have been preparing with controlled scrimmages.

“Conditioning-wise we will be OK so we will have to focus on one game, one period at a time,” he said.

And the games will be a contrast of styles with Alexandria being more of a physical game and Coulee a more skilled contest.

“We have been getting the players ready for changes like that,” Stepan said.

Fans seeing the first Steel home game will see a team that plays with emotion, Stepan said.

“Players should be excited to play at home for the first time of the season and there are six potential points out there for us,” Stepan said.

Starting at $4.50/week.
