MLC defeats Crown in 4 sets

NEW ULM — Martin Luther College downed Crown College 25-18, 25-15, 25-27, 25-19 on Monday in a nonconference women’s volleyball match. It was the second win of the season for the Knights.

“I am pleased that everybody played well and I’m pleased with how we played,” MLC head coach Rebecca Cox said. “I was pleased that we kept our composure and intensity.”

MLC jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. Crown closed the gap at 17-15. The Knights organized an 8-3 run to win the set.

In the second set, earned a 10-point lead. MLC played good defense and it managed to score points when needed to prevail in the set.

Crown refused to quit when it took advantage of Knight miscues. Crown got a block at the net to tie it at 20-20. The Storm got the lead when a Knight kocked the ball out of bounds. MLC fought back to briefly take the lead at 25-24. An error by MLC gave Crown a point and the Storm scored the final two points on MLC mistakes.

Both teams traded points throughout most of the fourth set. MLC was able to score key points as the set wound down. The MLC front line came up with a block for a 24-18 advantage. Crown scored on a soft drop. A Crown player served the ball into the set for the set and match point.

MLC (2-10) will play at Bethany Lutheran College on Friday.
