Belle Plaine rolls past New Ulm tennis team

NEW ULM — Because of illness, the New Ulm girls’ tennis team had to reshuffle its roster around on Monday against Belle Plaine. The Tigers came away with a 6-1 nonconference victory at New Ulm High School.

Neveah Ubl, an eighth-grader, picked up New Ulm’s lone victory of the day. She defeated Kamryn Stier 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

The Eagles were missing their No. 2 singles player, and Malia Emerson filled in at that position. Emerson lost 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Makiah Otto lost 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and Lydia King lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Belle Plaine also dominated the double action on the afternoon. At No. 1 doubles, Bethany Janssen and Lauren Mages lost to Kim Teal and Abby Bristlin 6-1, 6-2.

At second doubles, Ellie Wilker and Emily Guggisberg lost 7-5, 6-3 to Courtney Eppen and Elissa Moonen. Katie Wilker and Claire Brown lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

New Ulm hosts Waseca at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
