Faribault tops New Ulm boys
NEW ULM — The New Ulm boys’ soccer team dropped a 2-1 nonconference game to Faribault on Saturday at New Ulm High School.
New Ulm’s only goal came on a penalty kick from Jack Howard in the second half wit 1:09 left.
Faribault had a couple of chances early on in the first half, but New Ulm was able to keep the game scoreless thanks to some big plays on the defensive end. At the 33-minute mark, the Falcons had a chance to pick up a loose ball right in front of the net, but the Eagles cleared it out.
However, Faribault did score with 10:12 left in the first half when senior Ahmed Ali made a move and got past New Ulm goalkeeper Joshua Rakoczy for the goal. Rakoczy finished with four saves on the afternoon.
New Ulm and Faribault traded goals in the second period with Faribault scoring the first to go up 2-0. New Ulm (2-3) hosts Mankato Loyola at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
