Brewers take Tomahawk East title with win over Courtland
NEW ULM — The New Ulm Brewers clinched the regular season championship in the Tomahawk East League Sunday at Mueller Park with a 10-2 win over Courtland.
Mitch Bockenstedt got the win for the Brewers, who end their regular season at 16-4. The right-handed Bockenstedt pitched the final five innings of no-hit ball and struck out seven.
Mitch Kelly and Adam Slander each saw two innings of work.
Keith Bessemer took the loss for Courtland (0-20).
The win for the Brewers also gives them a first round playoff bye.
Wade French had three of New Ulm’s nine hits with Justin Hoffmann adding two hits.
Cory Schaefer had three RBis.
Courtland held a 2-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings before the Brewers tied it with two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single from Hoffmann and a Schaefer groundout.
New Ulm then scored seven runs in the fifth using four walks and five hits.
The Brewers made it 10-2 in the sixth on the 10th walk of the game by Courtland pitching.
