Legion Gold picks up two wins, SE Legion falls to Fairmont
EDEN PRAIRIE — New Ulm Legion Gold went 2-0 on Friday at the Gopher Classic.
New Ulm defeated Eden Prairie 8-7 and Anoka 6-0 in the other game of the day.
Aaron Portner pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the win against Eden Prairie. He allowed six runs, two of them earned, struck out three and allowed eight hits. Cole Backer pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the save. Backer allowed a run, walked two and allowed two hits. He struck out two.
Braden Zimmerman was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Chris Knowles hit a home run, drove in two runs and scored a run. Hunter Ranweiler was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Jace Marotz was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Against Anoka, Mark Schommer earned the win. He went all seven innings and allowed just two hits and no runs. He struck out seven.
Zimmerman was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Knowles was 2 for 4 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored.
Late Thursday
Fairmont 10, Sleepy Eye 8
FAIRMONT — Fairmont defeated Sleepy Eye Legion on Thursday night.
Luke Mielke took the loss for Sleepy Eye. He pitched three innings, allowed six hits and seven runs. He walked two and struck out two.
Dallas Bauer pitched three innings, allowed three runs on four hits in three innings.
Carter Brinkman was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Nathan Walter was 1 for 3 with two RBIs
Sleepy Eye hosts St. Peter on Saturday.
