Area roundup: Silver gets past Blue Earth, Sleepy Eye VFW blanks St. James

Silver 7, Blue Earth 6

WINNEBAGO — New Ulm VFW Silver edged Blue Earth 7-6 in VFW baseball action on Wednesday night.

Josh Giefer pitched three innings for the win for Silver. Jaden Drill threw two innings in relief and picked up the save.

Silver struck for 11 hits. Maddox Mortensen and Zander Fischer both collected two hits apiece for Silver.

Silver’s next game is at noon Saturday at Mueller Park, hosting Mankato.

Sleepy Eye VFW 10, St. James 0, 6 innings

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye VFW Post 800 downed St. James VFW 10-0 in six innings on Wednesday in VFW baseball action.

Jacob Meyer pitched all six innings for Post 800 and threw a five-hit shutout while striking out six batters.

Jacob Lux went 2 for 3 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs for Sleepy Eye, while Kegan Heiderscheidt went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Post 800 is at Lake Crystal for a 10 a.m. doubleheader next on Saturday.

Legion baseball

Sleepy Eye Post 7 6, Jordan 1

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye Legion Post 7 picked up its second consecutive win after downing Jordan 6-1 on Wednesday in legion baseball action.

Jacob Berg got the win for Post 7, pitching all seven innings and allowing just two hits and a walk for one run. He also collected eight strikeouts.

Leading the Sleepy Eye bats was Nick Labat, who was 3 for 3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Zach Haala also was 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Nathan Walter was 2 for 4 with an RBI for Post 7.

Post 7 (10-8) is at Fairmont next for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday.
