New Ulm Gold takes down N. St. Paul in UMC
Rain causes several cancellations on Day 2 of Upper Midwest?Classic
NEW ULM — New Ulm Legion Gold took down North St. Paul 5-2 on Friday afternoon in an Upper Midwest Classic baseball game.
Leading the Gold bats was Mason Cox, who went 2 for 3 with a run scored. Hunter Ranweiler also went 2 for 4 for Gold, while Jaden Domeier was 1 for 4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Chris Knowles drove in a run for Gold also on a single.
Mark Schommer took the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing six hits and a pair of walks for two earned runs. He struck out four.
Gold outhit N. St. Paul 8-6 and committed no errors, while N. St. Paul committed three errors.
All games on Friday were delayed an hour due to morning rain. Heavy rain returned later in the evening and canceled the remaining UMC games that night as a result. Gold was due to take on Harrisburg at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Mueller Park but will no longer play that game.
All teams will find out their placement and next opponents for Saturday after all 12:30 p.m. games are finished. Pool placement is determined by runs allowed.
Gold is now 2-0 in the UMC and will have their attention turned to Saturday morning’s game between Harrisburg and North St. Paul in Searles. Harrisburg topped Luverne 5-2 on Friday and Gold has allowed just three runs so far in the UMC.
